Where it fits

A rear window corner, a toolbox lid, a cooler side or a laptop lid. Any hard, smooth surface takes a decal: glass, paint, metal, hard plastic. Read how to apply a vinyl decal before it goes on.

How it goes on

  1. Wash the spot with soapy water, dry it, then wipe it with rubbing alcohol.
  2. Tape the decal across its middle, step back and check it sits level.
  3. Peel one half of the backing, press from the tape outward with a card, then do the other half.
  4. Peel the top sheet back on itself, slowly and close to the surface.

About this design

A sideways grin in two characters

Read it sideways: "=D" is the old keyboard grin, with two flat bars for eyes and a big open D for the mouth. The bars are plain rectangles and the D is a thick outline with a large hollow center, all in clean sans-serif. The shapes are simple and big, so the face reads from across the street in a single glance.

Stick it on the back of your laptop, where it grins at whoever sits across the table in a meeting. People who grew up typing faces into chat windows will read it at once. It is rated for outdoor use for up to six years, so a toolbox works too.

Before it goes on glass

Keep any decal off the windshield. On the rear window, California, Texas and Florida tie a decal to outside mirrors on both sides, New York bars stickers its DMV commissioner has not authorized, and your own state may differ, so read its vehicle code.
