Where it fits

A rear window corner, a toolbox lid, a cooler side or a laptop lid. Any hard, smooth surface takes a decal: glass, paint, metal, hard plastic. Read how to apply a vinyl decal before it goes on.

How it goes on

  1. Wash the spot with soapy water, dry it, then wipe it with rubbing alcohol.
  2. Tape the decal across its middle, step back and check it sits level.
  3. Peel one half of the backing, press from the tape outward with a card, then do the other half.
  4. Peel the top sheet back on itself, slowly and close to the surface.

About this design

Poe's raven made out of letters

The word "Nevermore" is the bird. Tall, wavering capitals packed side by side form a raven's spread wings, with the feather tips breaking off at both ends. The head rises from the middle of the word and two broad tail feathers hang below it. All of it is solid vinyl with narrow gaps, so from far away you see a bird, and up close the word appears.

Readers of Poe, this is the line from the poem you still remember after school. Spread the raven across the front of a notebook or a laptop lid, wings level, so the word stays easy to read. The open gaps let the surface underneath separate the letters.

Before it goes on glass

Keep any decal off the windshield. On the rear window, California, Texas and Florida tie a decal to outside mirrors on both sides, New York bars stickers its DMV commissioner has not authorized, and your own state may differ, so read its vehicle code.
