Where it fits

Along the bottom of a rear window, a bumper, a tailgate or the top of a cargo door. Any hard, smooth surface takes a decal: glass, paint, metal, hard plastic. Read how to apply a vinyl decal before it goes on.

How it goes on

  1. Wash the spot with soapy water, dry it, then wipe it with rubbing alcohol.
  2. Tape the decal across its middle, step back and check it sits level.
  3. Peel one half of the backing, press from the tape outward with a card, then do the other half.
  4. Peel the top sheet back on itself, slowly and close to the surface.

About this design

Five words of advice for dog people

Two lines of rounded, hand-drawn lowercase letters say "Life is short play with your dog", with only the L in Life set as a capital. The strokes are even and soft-cornered, a little loose, as if written with a thick marker. There is no picture and no frame, so the words carry it alone, and they read best from a car length or two away.

When you park at the trailhead with a dog in the back, the line on the lower edge of the hatch says what the trip is for. Other dog people tend to stop and read it while you clip the leash on. Your glass shows between every letter.

Before it goes on glass

Keep any decal off the windshield. On the rear window, California, Texas and Florida tie a decal to outside mirrors on both sides, New York bars stickers its DMV commissioner has not authorized, and your own state may differ, so read its vehicle code.
