Where it fits

A laptop lid, a toolbox, a rear window corner or a gear case. Any hard, smooth surface takes a decal: glass, paint, metal, hard plastic. Read how to apply a vinyl decal before it goes on.

How it goes on

  1. Wash the spot with soapy water, dry it, then wipe it with rubbing alcohol.
  2. Tape the decal across its middle, step back and check it sits level.
  3. Peel one half of the backing, press from the tape outward with a card, then do the other half.
  4. Peel the top sheet back on itself, slowly and close to the surface.

About this design

A grape cluster under a vine leaf

A broad vine leaf with pointed lobes covers the upper left, and a cluster of round grapes hangs down to the right, each grape a separate solid circle. A thin tendril curls up from the stem into a tight spiral. The leaf and grapes read from far away. The spiral tendril is the fine detail.

Vineyard picnics call for a wine cooler, and its lid is the spot for the cluster and leaf. Home winemakers like it on a kitchen canister, and anyone with a vine over the garden fence will know the tendril.

Before it goes on glass

Keep any decal off the windshield. On the rear window, California, Texas and Florida tie a decal to outside mirrors on both sides, New York bars stickers its DMV commissioner has not authorized, and your own state may differ, so read its vehicle code.
