Where it fits

A laptop lid, a toolbox, a rear window corner or a gear case. Any hard, smooth surface takes a decal: glass, paint, metal, hard plastic. Read how to apply a vinyl decal before it goes on.

How it goes on

  1. Wash the spot with soapy water, dry it, then wipe it with rubbing alcohol.
  2. Tape the decal across its middle, step back and check it sits level.
  3. Peel one half of the backing, press from the tape outward with a card, then do the other half.
  4. Peel the top sheet back on itself, slowly and close to the surface.

About this design

A saw blade that grits its teeth

A circular saw blade with a ring of hooked teeth has been given a face: two scowling eyes cut out under heavy brows and a clenched row of teeth set off to one side. Above it the word "Carpenter" arches in serif capitals with flared ends. The blade is one solid mass, so it reads first from a distance, and the lettering follows once you get closer.

Toolbox lids were made for this blade. Set it near the latch, with the arched word facing you when the box is closed. Carpenters, cabinetmakers and anyone who spends the day at a table saw will get the joke without being told.

Before it goes on glass

Keep any decal off the windshield. On the rear window, California, Texas and Florida tie a decal to outside mirrors on both sides, New York bars stickers its DMV commissioner has not authorized, and your own state may differ, so read its vehicle code.
