Where it fits

A laptop lid, a toolbox, a rear window corner or a gear case. Any hard, smooth surface takes a decal: glass, paint, metal, hard plastic. Read how to apply a vinyl decal before it goes on.

How it goes on

  1. Wash the spot with soapy water, dry it, then wipe it with rubbing alcohol.
  2. Tape the decal across its middle, step back and check it sits level.
  3. Peel one half of the backing, press from the tape outward with a card, then do the other half.
  4. Peel the top sheet back on itself, slowly and close to the surface.

About this design

A grim skull inside the biohazard sign

Three curved horns of the biohazard sign sweep around a scowling skull that fills the center ring. The skull has angled eye sockets, a cut nose and a long jaw whose teeth stretch down into the bottom horns. Thin slots split the ring on each side. From far off the three sharp arcs read at once, and the snarl of the skull comes through as you walk up.

Dead center on the back glass of a jeep, the three horns frame the window like a warning sign. It fits drivers whose taste runs to dark emblems and who want something heavier than a plain skull. A laptop lid takes it just as well.

Before it goes on glass

Keep any decal off the windshield. On the rear window, California, Texas and Florida tie a decal to outside mirrors on both sides, New York bars stickers its DMV commissioner has not authorized, and your own state may differ, so read its vehicle code.
