Where it fits

Along the bottom of a rear window, a bumper, a tailgate or the top of a cargo door. Any hard, smooth surface takes a decal: glass, paint, metal, hard plastic. Read how to apply a vinyl decal before it goes on.

How it goes on

  1. Wash the spot with soapy water, dry it, then wipe it with rubbing alcohol.
  2. Tape the decal across its middle, step back and check it sits level.
  3. Peel one half of the backing, press from the tape outward with a card, then do the other half.
  4. Peel the top sheet back on itself, slowly and close to the surface.

About this design

A shift pattern for manual loyalists

Slanted heavy capitals stack "Save the Sticks" into two lines, with a circle on the right holding a shift pattern: a thin lever track ending in five round knobs, three up top and two below. The letters are broad and solid for distance. The gate inside the ring is drawn in narrow lines that read best up close.

On a car with a clutch pedal, the lower edge of the rear glass gives the driver behind you a long red light to read it. It speaks to anyone who still rows their own gears and wants the next generation to learn how.

Before it goes on glass

Keep any decal off the windshield. On the rear window, California, Texas and Florida tie a decal to outside mirrors on both sides, New York bars stickers its DMV commissioner has not authorized, and your own state may differ, so read its vehicle code.
